We hope that the majority of your questions regarding the Torero will be answered elsewhere on the site but if there are any outstanding queries then you may find them here. If not, please contact us and we will do our best to answer your questions.
Q: How much will a Torero cost ?
A: Unfortunately, there is no answer
to this question. There are simply so many options with each and every build. Also, the
choice of parts used (ie genuine of replica) can alter the finished cost enormously.
However, a self-build Torero SV, using mainly genuine components, including
air-conditioning and with a relatively standard power plant could be built for around
£30,000, although that could be reduced considerably if you are going to assemble the
chassis yourself and could maybe build/paint/trim the car yourself. At the other end of
the scale, a factory built Torero
GTR, with a 5.2 litre tuned V8,
high-grade paint such as genuine metallic pearl, alcantara trimmed interior and using
nearly all genuine parts would be approximately £65,000.
Q: Is there a build manual
available?
A: At the moment we are still trying
to compile an extensive build manual, although in reality the Torero has been designed to
be as easy as possible to assemble, with the homebuilder in mind, what with the ability to
purchase a fully-built chassis and other pre-manufacturered parts such as the wiring loom.
In addition, we are always at the end of a 'phone or fax and we have found that a 5 minute
conversation can be worth many hours of scratching your head over pages of assembly
instructions. In short, we are looking to eventually be able to
offer a build manual but our resources at the moment are much better spent by further
refining the vehicle and keeping a one-on-one relationship with our customers.
Q: How long will a Torero take to
build?
A: Around 1500 hours for a first-time
self-built vehicle, although we are able to assemble one in approximately half that. Most
self-builds average between 1500 and 2000 hours.
Q: Seriously, how easy is this
kit to build, and is a garage essential?
A: To give an example, we have builders from various backgrounds. Everyone from Postmen to
people actively involved in the motor trade. For sure, building a Torero is no easy feat
and will require time and dedication but we have made it as simple as possible and is
certainly attainable even for someone who has no motor trade background. As for building
'under cover', we have at least one customer who has completed a Torero with no garage,
awning, lean-to or any other overhead cover. Admittedly, your build is then constrained to
days without rain but clearly some people can be extremely resourceful if the desire is
high enough.
Q: Has the Torero passed the
Single Vehicle Approval?
A: Yes, every Torero ever built has
passed the S.V.A. test'and all have been registered brand new by DVLA
Q: How do I register my car?
A: By contacting the Department of
Vehicle Licensing Association (DVLA) or by clicking
here. To date, every
Torero built has been registered as new but depending on how many used/reconditioned parts
you use you may only be able to obtain an age-related plate. However, assigning a 'Q'
plate to the Torero would be highly unlikey due to the fact that the chassis is not a
radically-altered one from a production car, and anyone attempting to produce a Torero
would not use anything other than our brand new chassis anyway.
Q: Can I see a fully built
demonstrator?
A: Of course. In fact, we would not
expect any customer to take us seriously or put down a deposit for a Torero unless you
could. It may well be that the demonstrator at the time could be slightly battle scarred
but we would hope that any potential customer would be looking beneath the cosmetics
anyway. It's the design of the chassis and the accuracy of the kit that we are most proud
of, not stonechips or well-used leather.
Q: What engine options can I
have?
A: At the moment we have only used
2 x engines ,the Rover / TVR V8, which can be used in all guises from the early 3.5 litre carburettor
versions right up to the tuned 5.2 litre injection types. And lastly the BMW 5000cc V12 uptp 5700cc
Q: What colour can I have?
A: Any that is within your
imagination. In fact, to aid any stonechip or minor damage, several of our bodykits have
even been supplied with a gel-coat finish based on the actual finished colour. To date we
have used both the genuine SuperFly yellow as well as the base colour for Metallic Pearl
Orange. Given enough lead time, we can supply the body kit in any colour of gel-coat you
require.
Q: Are turnkey cars available?
A: Not at present,, order book is full,
Q: Will I physically fit the car?
I have heard that the cabins of these vehicles are quite small!
A: Indeed, the cabins of these vehicles feel quite 'snug' but that is only because most
people are used to the abundance of wasted space around them in a 'conventional' car. It
does not take long to settle into the rather 'laid back' seating angle of the Torero and
indeed is very comfortable. However, legroom is obviously a limitation and we would say
that 6'1" would be the maximum for the current chassis although we have just been
approached by a customer who at 6' 5" requires even more room. For this reason, we
will be building him a specially altered chassis and will subsequently be offering this as
an option for future customers.
Q: What is the delivery
time, for both kits and fully-built cars?
A: We are currently quoting
approximately 6-8 weeks for a kit, and up to a year for turnkey cars. The waiting time for
turnkey cars is unacceptable in our opinion and has been brought about purely due to
unforeseen demand. We are hoping to address this problem and would ideally want to be
quoting around 12 months for turnkeys.
